The 19th transmediale festival again explores how art and society are changing under the influence of media and technologies which become more and more dominant in our everyday lives. In contemporary art, digital media like video and electronic networks are now so wide-spread that a strict definition of what constitutes ‘media art’ seems no longer possible. We have therefore decided to alter the subtitle of the festival: transmediale is no longer called ‘international media art festival’, but ‘festival for art and digital culture’.

El título del evento toma como referencia el calificativo de “estrecho dudoso” con el que los conquistadores españoles nombraron al istmo centroamericano, al no encontrar el estrecho que los llevaría hacia las islas de las especies. Se quiere retomar (y revertir) el malentendido, el desajuste respecto a las expectativas del otro. Pero sobre todo, se trata de reinscribir aquella duda en el contexto actual de una región que tal vez continúa dudosa, pero sobre todo sigue dudando.

Communication is indispensable for any living organism to survive and coexist with others. Human beings in particular, endowed with language and text, have communicated ideas while advancing technologies and media, which range from oral communication to the Internet, throughout history.

videoDictionary es una colección de videos, cada uno de una duración inferior a un minuto, que están asociados a una palabra (el título) de tal mane que la expresan visualmente o la definen conceptualmente. Las obras no contienen palabras ni en las imágenes ni en la banda sonora.  Pone énfasis en la relación entre las palabras y las imágenes en movimiento. 

A partir de la exposición realizada en 2003, FoodCulturaMuseum editó el catálogo de los más de 200 platos creados por diversos autores que configuraban esta Vajilla Imaginaria de Barcelona fueron diseñados especialmente para la ocasión por destacados artistas, escritores, arquitectos, políticos, diseñadores, cocineros y filósofos. Todos ellos participaron de forma desinteresada en un evento que dio lugar a una red de amigos y colaboradores del FCM, además de recoger fondos para futuras actividades mediante la subasta de las piezas que conformaban la Vajilla Imaginaria.
