La exposición se titula “PARATOPIAS” y presenta proyectos realizados en diversos momentos y contextos. Los trabajos se reúnen alrededor de la paratopía, un término conceptual definido por el lingüista Dominique Maingueneau y utilizado por Muntadas.
Dominique Maingueneau escribe: “El arte es una actividad que puede practicarse a costa de la paratopía, de una imposible pertenencia a un lugar, a una comunidad, a una época o a una lengua. Para encontrar su lugar en el espacio paratópico del Arte, hay que renunciar a ocupar plenamente cualquier lugar. Esta imposibilidad de pertenencia no es algo que se imponga a los artistas: se desarrolla a través de su creación. Deben construir, en el mismo movimiento, sus obras y la paratopía que las hace posibles. A partir de ahí, no tienen otra salida que dedicarse a una obra sin fin en una vida sin lugar.”
La exposición presenta un corte transversal de la carrera de Muntadas, con obras desde los años 70’ hasta la actualidad, con trabajos inéditos producidos especialmente para esta ocasión.
La muestra, que se podrá ver en la nueva galería de la calle Méndez Núñez 14, se extenderá al espacio de Poblenou, Passatge Saladrigas 5, donde 3 de sus videoproyecciones / instalaciones se insertarán en el peculiar contexto del almacén de obras de arte.
Con este proyecto, Muntadas sigue sus reflexiones acerca del espacio, entendido como espacio físico pero también como espacio de uso. A través de videos, fotografías, material de archivo e instalación sonora, el artista se interesa por temas como la pertenencia al lugar, la ocupación del espacio público, el desplazamiento o los mecanismos del poder, entre otros.
Con motivo de la exposición, se edita una publicación formato periódico con textos de Eugeni Bonet y Victoria Sacco. La publicación de 500 ejemplares reúne todas las obras presentes en la exposición y está diseñada por Teresa Mulet e impreso por Gràfiques Martí.

The exhibition titled “PARATOPIAS” presents projects carried out at various times and contexts. The works are gathered around the word paratopia, a conceptual term defined by the linguist Dominique Maingueneau.
Maingueneau writes: “Art is an activity that can only be practiced at the cost of paratopia, the impossibility of belonging to a place, a community, a time or a language. To find one's place in the paratopic space of Art, one must renounce the possibility of fully occupying any place whatsoever. Although this impossibility of belonging is not something imposed on artists: it's something they work out through their creations. They must construct, at the same time, their works and the paratopia that makes them possible. They have no other way out than to devote themselves to an endless effort in a life without place.”
The exhibition presents a cross-section of Muntadas' career from the 70's to the present, with new works produced especially for this occasion.
The show on view in the new gallery at carrer Méndez Núñez 14, will extend to the Poblenou space, Passatge Saladrigas 5, where three of Muntadas’ video projections / installations will be set in a storage warehouse.
With this project, Muntadas continues his reflections about space, not only understood as physical but also as a space of use. Through videos, photographs, archival material and sound installation, the artist shows his interest in topics such as belonging to a place, the occupation of public space, displacement or the mechanisms of power, among others.
On the occasion of this exhibition, the gallery is publishing a newspaper with texts by Eugeni Bonet and Victoria Sacco. This publication with a print run of 500 brings together all the works at the exhibition and is designed by Teresa Mulet and printed by Gràfiques Martí.
