La exposición la componen 17 obras de los artistas: Miroslaw Balka (Varsovia, 1958); Mona Hatoum (Beirut, 1952); Jannis Kounellis (El Pireo, Grecia,  1936); Antoni Muntadas (Barcelona, 1942); Juan Muñoz (Madrid, 1953 - Ibiza, 2001); Juan Navarro Baldeweg  (Santander, 1939); Gabriel Orozco (Jalapa, Veracruz, México, 1962); Julião Sarmento (Lisboa, Portugal, 1948); Thomas Schütte  (Oldenburg, Alemania, 1954); Santiago Serrano (Toledo, 1942); Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954).

The 12th Istanbul Biennial explores the rich relationship between art and politics, focusing on artworks that are both formally innovative and politically outspoken. It takes as its point of departure the work of the Cuban American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres (1957–1996). Gonzalez-Torres was deeply attuned to both the personal and the political, and also rigorously attentive to the formal aspects of artistic production, integrating high modernist, minimal, and conceptual references with themes of everyday life.

The Museum of Affects exhibition brings together four important European museums: Moderna galerija, Ljubljana, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Barcelona; the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; and the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst, Antwerpen (M HKA). The institutions have joined forces to challenge the present canons of art history and replace them with transnational, pluralistic cultural narratives and approaches.

Coincidiendo con la inauguración de las nuevas salas de la Colección del Museo Reina Sofía, que abarcan el periodo comprendido entre los años 1962-1982, se edita un nuevo volumen con textos de Manuel Borja-Villel, Lynne Cooke, Jesús Carrillo, Rosario Peiró, Jean-François Chevrier, Isabel Tejeda, Víctor del Río, José Díaz Cuyas, Fernando David y Alexander Alberro. The Lucifer Effect exhibition at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, inspired by the book of the same title by leading American psychologist Philip Zimbardo, aims to show how people can turn evil with surprisingly little effort. Installations, videos, grafitti, photographs and other works by artists such as Jenny Holzer, Hans Haacke, Artur Żmijewski and the Czech artist Magdalena Jetelová, deal with issues of power, authority and corruption.
