Momenta Art is pleased to present a compilation of thirty years of activities in a single exhibition. This broad survey puts into perspective exhibitions, screenings, performance, and events. recap will include reproductions of work from exhibitions, documentation of events, video work, and some pivotal works of art previously exhibited at Momenta. The ideas that have persisted throughout Momenta’s existence, as responses to world events, social and political trends and movements, are evident through critical dialogs that recur throughout the timeline of the exhibition. Responses to changing perspectives on race and identity, to gentrification, to the struggle to define feminism and gender, and responses to the violence of capital are some of the currents that are revisited throughout Momenta Art’s programming. Besides documentation of solo and group exhibitions, recap is an attempt to capture the moments of connection, the fleeting grasps at meaning and shared experience that Momenta has striven to provide. The exhibition displays the fortitude and perseverance that makes a not-for-profit develop, refine and rediscover its mission.
We are grateful to the artists we have had the honor to exhibit, our audience, and the people and organizations that have supported us these many years. recap is a celebration of the history of Momenta and all the artists that we have exhibited.
Special thanks to Phil Buehler, and Evelyn Davis for assistance in making this exhibition possible.
