ENG / The Total Museum presents a major exhibition, the Muntadas: Asian Protocols by the internationally recognized artist Antoni Muntadas, one of the early pioneers of conceptual and media art. In this project, he highlights the similarities, differences, and conflicts between South Korea, China, and Japan through massive images. The exhibition is comprised of 5 parts; (1) which is arranged and re-organized based on more than 43 key words such as: diplomacy and censorship; (2) 3 video projections of ‘On Translation: Go Round- China’, ‘On Translation: On View- Japan’, ‘On Translation: On Listening- South Korea’; (3) Public / Private spaces in 3 cities: Beijing, Seoul, and Tokyo; (4) Blackboard dialog on the 3 countries; (5) Protocol archives. Antoni Muntadas wants to share the images of Asia from the foreign outsider’s view point and deepen the understanding of politics, history, economy, culture, and society of the three Asian countries: South Korea, China, and Japan, through the exhibition Muntadas: Asian Protocols, stating in the artist’s notes that “I am curious about the similarities and differences between three of Asia’s main countries: China, South Korea and Japan. I am no specialist and I don’t speak any of the three languages, but I am interested in relating images to codes that may or may not be understood as forming part of the stereotypes, and in reflecting the point of view of the outsider.” http://www.wtimes.kr/sub.php?code=article&category=21&mode=view&board_num=230
