Ampliación fotográfica de una imagen de la intervención original

Invitado por la Public Art Fund para realizar una intervención en la gran pantalla luminosa de Times Square, en el corazón de Manhattan, la aportación de Muntadas consistió en intercalar entre la publicidad habitual de este espacio las frases contradictorias: «esto no es un anuncio», «esto es un anuncio», junto con las palabras «subliminal», «fragmentación» y «velocidad». Éstas aparecían sucesivamente y a velocidad cada vez menor, al tiempo que el tamaño de las letras crecía de manera progresiva hasta su paulatina ilegibilidad.

Invited by the Public Art Fund to carry out an intervention on the huge bright screen in Times Square, at the heart of Manhattan, Muntadas interspersed contradictory sentences between the usual advertisements on the screen: ‘this is not an advertisement’, ‘this is an advertisement’, alongside the words ‘subliminal’, ‘fragmentation’ and ‘speed’. These appeared in succession and increasingly slowly, while the size of the letters gradually grew, to the point of becoming illegible.
